Do you need help creating your portfolio for art school or college? Are you overwhelmed with the process? You have come to the right person. My Portfolio Mentees have gone on to some of the most prestigious art schools in the country. RSID, LCAD, Pratt, DigiPen, Chicago Art Institute, Boston University, VCUarts... to name a few. Many of them have received scholarships from their strong portfolios that stand out amongst the sea of competition.
My portfolio Mentorship consists of a lot of skill building first to best prepare you to build the best portfolio you can. Submitting to art schools and art colleges within Universities is extremely competitive. I recommend students to allow for at least a year and a half to give themselves some time to build the skills that I can teach them. So that means they should be prepared to start their portfolio Mentorship during their sophomore or Junior year. I have been doing this for more that a decade and have a 100% success rate with my Mentees.
First Steps:
-Email me at roseirelan.art@gmail.com to schedule a phone interview with the student and at least one parent.
- In that interview we will determine your Portfolio Mentorship needs based on the skills your need to build and the time you have to build those skills and your portfolio.
Weekly or bi-monthly meetings to review your progress and give each student personalized feed back and advice. (depending on what works best for your schedule)
Personalized Curriculum based on your goals and priorities for your art. Keep in mind that I have a lifetime of painting and drawing portrait, figure, landscape and plein air painting and I am proficient in range of mediums.

“ have no doubt the individual training and formal critiques my daughter received, along with Rose’s portfolio guidance, were key to her high acceptance rate and substantial scholarship awards. She was admitted to Boston University, Parsons Paris, SAIC, Mass Art and Pratt Institute. Waitlisted at U of Michigan. (She did not apply to west coast schools, but I know many of Rose’s other students have had great success in California.) Rose is professional and will critique honestly but always with compassion and positivity. My daughter will miss her but is excited to continue her art journey at Boston University – School of Visual Arts - Class of 2025! Thanks Rose!!
“The timing of Rose becoming a part of our family life and college planning was perfect. My son has his heart set on a B.F.A. in Animation. While at first, I set out to help my son with the college application process, I soon realized that I needed Rose’s help. As I am a college planner, I thought the application process would be something that I could tackle on my own. However, for visual arts programs, I found the portfolio of artist work requirement daunting. I didn’t know anything about figure drawings, character designs, expression sheets, storytelling illustration, animation reel, storyboards, and so forth. Rose did and she was able to help guide Jared in putting together his portfolio for his college applications. Rose’s personalized teaching in-person gave Jared an opportunity to work on his art pieces while being vigilant of application deadlines. My son’s working relationship with Rose evolved into a beautiful, collaborative partnership. As for me, Rose took off an enormous load off my chest and eased my worries as a parent. Having Rose be part of the college planning process made family life at home so much lighter and pleasant for all. I highly recommend Rose to anyone who is in need of artistic growth, support and professional guidance.
I struggled to find a good teacher in my area who could teach me art at a more advanced level than what I was taught in school. Thankfully, a friend referred me to Rose's Mentorship. With Rose, I learned the foundations of anatomy, value, and light, similar to how the masters were taught. Rose possesses a talent for tailoring guidance to each mentee's needs and puts special emphasis on areas where extra help is needed. Having worked in the industry for a long time, Rose's experience is essential for every artist considering college or a career in the arts.
I was amazed by the feedback I received from colleges at National Portfolio Day. They loved the way I organized my portfolio and the inclusion of unique pieces that they don't typically see in portfolios. Throughout my time with Rose, she helped me prepare every piece and carefully curated the selection. She had a deep understanding of what colleges wanted to see, and I believe my application process wouldn't have been as successful without her guidance. I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the Mentee program and highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve at an advanced level.
