Hi, I'm Rose Irelan

My creative nature was encouraged at a young age. Under the advice of my high school art teacher, my mother enrolled me in art classes where I found comfort and inspiration from my teachers and making art with other students.  During these early art classes and many others that have followed, I discovered my love of drawing and painting depicting nature and figures. Through my art education and guidance of skilled teachers and mentors alike, I have been able to realize my dream of being a professional artist and impact many others to fulfill their dream of being the artist they are meant to be.

Art Journey is my way of showing you how to start and create your own Art Journey. Walking this path with you, guiding you every step of the way is why I am here.

"I started my academy to inspire others and teach the skills of drawing and painting so that you can become the artist you aspire to be through the joy of creating art."

Coaching

Art Education Matters.

Art Mentorship Program

This is the art program for those who are feeling the need for a mentor and some guidance on their Art Journey.

If you are ready to step into your art practice all-out, this program is for you!  I will be accepting a limited number of online mentorship students that I work with one-on-one, based on a first-come, first-serve basis.  I would love one of those students to be you!

Portfolio Mentorship for College Art Applications

I have always felt it to be very important to pass down my knowledge to the next generation. Sharing this knowledge is as important to me as my own painting career. Without creative people in the world we would not have a very fun or beautiful world. Art is everywhere from the houses we live in and what we wear, to what entertains us, how we interact with the products and the experiences of our culture and how we express complex concepts. I always loved being a graphic designer because of this. And now as a full time fine artist and arts instructor I am still fired up to go to work every day!

Creatives need to create. Art Schools and top art colleges are competitive. The number one thing that art schools and art programs are looking for is a strong portfolio. A strong portfolio does not happen easy. First of all, the skills that are necessary to make each portfolio submittal strong take  practice, study and skill building. I am engaged with my students making sure they understand this. I work with them each step of the way teaching them those technical skills required, whether it be for their portfolio or for their own personal growth as an artist.

Did you know I teach plein air painting?

Students painting "en plein air", outdoors. The BEST way to learn color and light. I am known for my plein air paintings (some have won awards!). I love passing down the tradition of this type of painting that the French and California Impressionists did.

Frequently asked questions

You’ve got questions. I’ve got answers.

How did you get to be so successful?

I knew I loved doing art at a young age so I went to art school! I have never stopped learning and working on my art since then. It does take time and success in painting very much adheres to the 10,000 hours rule. But if you love it - then do it and those hours will add up. I call it " Brush Miliage"

What kind of training did you need?

All kinds. Art school was just the beginning of my art journey. Finding a good teacher who really knows their craft is essential. Talent is often misunderstood as something that someone has been given when in reality talent is something that one earns through hard work in perserverence.

Do you need talent to be an artist?

Absolutely no! You need to get a teacher, train hard, and immerse yourself fully into drawing and painting. Study the Masters.
